Miscellaneous
  • In 1940 Corona Extra was the first beer to print its label directly onto the bottle
  • In 2012 Corona Extra was the #6 selling beer overall in the U.S.
  • Drinking and enjoying Corona wouldn’t be complete without a wedge of lime or lemon inserted into the bottle’s mouth, to add extra flavor and tartness. But this was done first in Mexico to keep the flies from getting into their beer. ¡Salud!

Corona Extra gluten free beer low gluten test results negative celiac

Test result
Negative at 10 parts per million (ppm), meaning it is less than 10 ppm gluten. Though standards vary from country to country, according to the FDA, "in order to use the term 'gluten free' on its label a food must meet all the requirements of the definition, including that the food must contain less than 20 ppm gluten". It is said that products with a gluten content below 20 ppm are suitable for people with celiac disease.

My experience drinking Corona Extra
A lot better beer than people give it credit for. This is the perfect beer on a summer's day and since I live in Los Angeles I drink this year round. Ever had that feeling when you open a beer and think "wish I had xyz beer instead"? Never with Corona. Absolutely refreshing every time - especially with that slice of lime. I am not sure where I fall in the gluten tolerance spectrum; I am gluten intolerant but not celiac. I definitely know what it feels like to be "glutened" i.e. gluten exposure, but I have not deliberately pushed my gluten consumption limits with any food or beer. I have safely consumed 3 x 12 oz bottles of Corona Extra over a 3-4 hour period (drinking nothing else) without experiencing any kind of gluten reaction.

  5. Hey guys,

I have been drinking Corona for the last few months since finding this website. I'm a full blown, crumb will put me out for a day coeliac and I have found no adverse effects, even after knocking off half a carton in sitting.

    Definitely give it a go.

  7. Any experience with corona light?

  8. I tried drinking two Coronas based on this test, and I am definitely having the same symptoms as when I drink regular beers. I don't get these symptoms with Omission, Daura, or Redbridge. I'm not sure how expensive or time consuming it is, but maybe you could do the test a few more times to control for anomalies? Anyway, thanks for doing this. Yours is the only site I've been able to find that's looking into this issue in a systematic way.

    1. Could be the corn, do you react to corn?

    3. difference between breweries as in the facilities being clean from gluten if they still dabble with gluten in their other beers

  9. I have enjoyed doing my own personal "research" on the Corona/gluten issue. I have been drinking Redbridge nearly exclusively for 8 years. It is good beer.

But a change is very good and I have noticed no adverse effects from either Corona regular or lite in several months. My wife and 2 adult daughters are gluten intolerant as well. Since they are hesitant to expand their horizons in this area my research material never disappears

    1. Redbridge? Seriously. That stuff is bad!

    2. Yeah Redbridge is one of the worst things I've ever tasted!

    3. Huh. I don't mind Redbridge. Not at the top of my list, but always relieved to see it as an option when I'm out in the world.

  10. Love your blog!!! ;) I personally have no problems with Corona, and mostly stick to maybe 2 Ommissions(it does have some gluten in it-they can only market it in Orgeon as gf, but it isn't on their containers here in Chicago. We lived in Oregon for a while and I did notice the difference between in state and out of state. I can drink occasionally drink 1-2 Corsendonks( expensive imported $$$ Belgian Ale, hard to find) and I drank a Frambois Lambic tonight as a test. So far so good! Most other beers kill me. Horrible headache with in the hour and terrible hangovers the next day(think exorcist). But, I am figuring out which beers are mostly made from corn syrup and rice. Quite a few gf people have problems with Barley or Hops. I wonder if that might be bothering the person who had a problem with Corona? Keep up the awesome work! I will def. try Redbrige, never tried it.

According to Sinebrychoff, a Finnish company owned by the Carlsberg Group, Corona Extra contains barley malt, rice and/or corn, hops, yeast, antioxidants (ascorbic acid), and propylene glycol as a stabiliser.[6]

  11. Corona is most refreshing, smooth and balanced beer that I have ever drink. Its perfect for summer nightouts. And I got this beer in stock at lowest rates in beverage depot. You should try corona regular.

  14. I'm sure i have a problem with gluten, but waiting for the test results. Ate white bread, some pasta and had some regular beers for about ten days. Ended up feeling very crappy and felt the same way as when you have the flu. I have also made a lot of experiments, to see if i had a problem with yeast and i found out that i have. I just had a Corona Extra today, and reacted with a runny nose and a headache. For me i think it's the yeast they use. I'll ask my doctor i they can test for yeast allergy

  18. I only recently gave up gluten because I thought it would help, health wise. I like Corona and did not know it was under 10 ppm. I usually drink Redbridge and like it but it's sort of sweet. Someone told me about Stag and I really love the taste but I don't know if it is actually gluten free or low in gluten or full of gluten. Have you thought about testing Stag?

  22. I am a Celiac and never have symptoms but the doc says that I have inflamation and my blood analysis says I am a celiac. so the real question is does drinking any 20ppm beer continue to damage my intestines even though I never get symptoms? I think so but I don't want to believe it.

  23. I drink Corona regularly and have been diagnosed with Celiac. No problems that I know of. I also recommend Modelo Especial. It has the same or similar gluten levels as Corona (less than 20 ppm).

  25. I was wondering if anyone has experience or test Red Stripe beer from Jamaica?

  26. If you have Celiac you definitely should take it seriously. It is a very serious health condition. That being said, everyone is different. Corona extra is the only beer I feel comfortable drinking because it has virtually no gluten and could be labeled as gluten free. I appreciate you putting this article up!

  28. 2021 Update.

I have coeliac disease and have found the Mexican brewed Corona Extra to be okay to drink (symptom wise) and was aware of these results but after moving to the UK where it is brewed on licence I enquired to Corona whether the same process/ingredients were involved. I received the below helpful reply that indicates (based on their own independent testing) gluten in Corona Extra 'hovers around the 20ppm' region. The reply (see below) was very helpful:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact Corona regarding your enquiry. Corona Extra is produced in the UK using the exact same recipe and ingredients as that used to produce in Mexico.

We have had gluten analysis performed on our portfolio by an external lab, the average values for gluten in our beers hover around 20 ppm. It is recommended that Coeliacs and those with a gluten intolerance consult their GP to ascertain the severity of their intolerance before deciding which products are safe to consume.

    Thanks again for contacting Corona."

  29. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.

  31. I am a celiac, i cant have a crumb of gluten, let alone drink a regular beer. I havent intentionally ingested gluten in around 4 years. After reading a lot of independent tests and reading on peoples experiences, I finally decided to go for my first Corona Extra. I had 0 reactions, none at all. Ended up having around 6 of them and felt 110% fine. In fact, it sat extremely well with my stomach vs. GF beers where i always feel extremely full and a bit bloated after drinking them. Thanks for sharing!
